Sensei Sandeep Desai
Sandeep Desai is a master of T’ai Chi, Yoga and Martial Arts having several international accolades to his name. He has successfully completed the ‘Full Time Training’ under the strict supervision of Grandmaster Chen Zhonghua and is the first Indian to be authorized by Chinese Grandmaster Zhu Tian Cai to teach the original Chen Style T’ai Chi in India
Sensei Sandeep Desai has studied Karate, (Okinawa-Japan-1989) T’ai Chi (Chen village, China- 1998), and Ashtanga Yoga from Shri KPJAYI Yoga Shala (Mysore-India), all from the original source. Sensei has been teaching across India and abroad for more than 30 years.
Sensei Desai holds 5th Degree Black Belt in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate, acquired in Okinawa, Japan and he has been a full-time teacher of the martial arts for over three decades.
He has dedicated over 20 years to the regular practice of Yoga. He is certified and authorized to teach Ashtanga Yoga, directly from lineage holder Saraswathiji, a daughter of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois from the world-renowned KPJAYI Institute in Mysore
He has been featured on TEDx show, BBC World, Star Plus, Zoom, CNBC TV18, Zee TV, Doordarshan, Channel V & Times Now, etc, and held workshops for different national and international wellness festivals and more than 50 corporates around India.
He regularly teaches T’ai Chi and Ashtanga, at International Yoga Festival at Rishikesh, every year to foreign nationals participating from around 90 countries. Acclaimed as the first martial arts teacher to write articles on Meditation, Breathing and T’ai chi in leading Indian publications such as the Times of India and Indian Express, he also is a practicing fruitarian.
Sensei was felicitated by HON. Shri Narendra Modi, for doing sterling work of spreading T’ai Chi awareness in India. He is the author of ‘The Small Book of T’ai Chi’, and contributes regularly to the popular ‘Speaking Tree’ column in The Times of India. T’ai Chi instructional DVDs produced by Sandeep Desai are released by Times Music.
Sensei has successfully conducted workshops for many corporates like Siemens, TATA Motors, Aditya Birla Group, Jindal Steel, Airport Authority of India (AAI), Brahmakumaris, Reebok, Reliance Money, Johnson & Johnson, Bharat Petroleum, Times of India, Western Naval Command, Central Railways, Crossword, Magna, NCPA, Help Library, Melange, Indus, YPO, Apollo, Hinduja and Lilavati hospital, IIT-IIM management trainees, and a horde of others.
Sensei has taught celebrities such as Hrithik Roshan, Ranvir Singh, Rajat Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Sunil Shetty, Purab Kohli, Madhu Sapre, and well-known personalities such as Columnist Rashmi Uday Singh, Sangeeta Kathiawada, Laxmi Nair and Shashikant Garware and mamy more.

- Over 30 years of experience in Martial Arts, Yoga and Meditation.
- Visited Okinawa, Japan five times between 1989 & 1997 and received training in Okinawan Shorin Matsubayashi Ryu directly from Hanshi Shoshin Nagamine, 10th Dan Black Belt.
- Attained 5th Dan Black Belt in 1997. The test was conducted by Hanshi Shoshin Nagamine and his senior assistants.
- Performed Kata Wankan in group in the opening ceremony of the World Karate tournament in 1997.
- Trained with Sensei Katherine Baxter, former world champion in Okinawan Weaponry.
- Also, invited Sensei Katherine Baxter, world renowned weapon expert and two Japanese teachers, to impart training to Indian students.
- Studied Chen Style T’ai Chi in Freising, Germany under Dr. Bob Bacher in 1997.
- Sensei Desai is the author of ‘The Small Book of T’ai Chi’, and writes regularly for the popular ‘Speaking Tree’ column in The Times of India. Times Music has recently launched two introductory DVDs on T’ai Chi featuring Sensei and has drawn an enormous response from all over.

- Underwent advanced training in Chen Style T’ai Chi in Singapore in 2002 under the direct guidance of 19th generation Grandmaster Zhu Tian Cai, one of the world’s foremost authorities on Chen Style T’ai Chi. Certified by the Grandmaster to teach his authentic version of Chen Style T’ai Chi.
- Visited Chenjiagou village, China, in 2004 and 2007, for advanced training under Grandmaster Zhu Tian Cai.
- Won the bronze medal in the First World Traditional Wushu Tournament in 2004 held at Zhengzhou city, China, under the age category of 30 to 45 years.
- Won the silver medal in the First International Chen Style T’ai Chi Tournament, held at Singapore in December 2005.
- Teaches Chenjiagou T’ai Chi on a full time basis, conducting regular Courses and workshops
- Contributed numerous articles to leading newspapers and magazines including Indian Express (Express Newsline), Times of India (Bombay Times). His articles have also been published in the Speaking Tree Column and the ‘Wellness’ supplement. (Times of India).
