My introduction
to T'ai Chi
My transformation through T'ai Chi

Having endured the pulls and pressures of Karate for nearly 20 years, I was on the look-out for something more subtle, gentle and original. Something that would also serve as a philosophical base, besides being a sound exercise program. I longed to learn a system, which could relax my breathing, calm my mind and bring a feeling of inner peace and harmony.

Call it destiny or accident; I stumbled upon the Chinese Silk-Weaving Exercises through a book titled “Health Secrets of Ancient China” authored by Michael Minic. From here on my life took a turn. I was immediately impressed by the observations made by the author. The detailed description about how seemingly easy exercises (which are soft in appearance) can bring about a transformation in our physical and mental health affected me instantaneously. By the time I finished reading it, I was already practicing the exercises mentioned in the book. Although the book was about the Chinese Art of Silk Weaving, it also touched on T'ai Chi, which literally means the 'Grand Ultimate Boxing '.

A short while later, I saw a television programme on NBC depicting Chinese people moving through mysterious but graceful movements and I knew then that this was what I wanted to do with my life.
